This conference will address this extremely timely question for Europe and the European Commission, especially in the current context of financial, economic and social crises. It will be centred around EU-funded research projects in the field of European identity/identities and will bring together those currently active in European identity/identities research and those involved in policy-making at the European level. NGOs and citizens are also welcome to join in and to voice their opinions on the suggested topics.

The conference will address two main issues:

Whether there is a common European identity or several diverging European identities emerging, and what shape(s) it/they take(s)?
What (policy and research) implications the development of a European identity/European identities have for the European Union?
This conference is co-organised by the European Commission and Prof. Robert Miller from Queens University, Belfast.
