SIRG 2012: Regions for Active Ageing (Framework document)

The Social Inclusion Region Group (2010 SIRG) was established in 2009 as a regional and local response to the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. Due to the success of the 2010 SIRG and the support shown by several EU and national institutions, the regions involved have decided to continue the good work in the field of social inclusion beyond the 2010 European Year.
Europe’s decision to declare 2012 the European Year on Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations offers an excellent opportunity to carry on the work in ‘2012 SIRG’ and further discuss in detail the policy and practical challenges of ageing and the active participation of elders in society. The 2012 SIRG is a structure for positive interaction between local and regional stakeholders and the European institutions on the issue of active ageing. Likewise, the SIRG is to provide a structure for analysis and exchanges of best practice focused on the local and regional governance levels.

The fields of action for 2012 SIRG will be independent living, health and prevention, social innovation and care, and active contribution and social inclusion.
